(Port) Wine of the month April 2017: Ramos Pinto 40 Year old Tawny
This rather is a homage than a tasting note to one of the finest individuals amongst the Port producers: Joao Nicolau de Almeida. He is not only extremely kind and knowledgeable but also funny and symphatic - a perfect match to spend a perfect evening. Since he led Ramos Pinto for 40 years, head-enologist Ana Rosas exclusively bottled a 40 year old Tawny. Only for him and only 320 bottles.
Deep dark core in the dark-orange colour with intensive green reflections. Balanced, but intensive bouquet with honey, butterscotch, nuts and some hints of smoke. The palate is perfectly stabilised by the sugar and acidity - very deep without being overloaded. Mixed nuts and almonds and some aceton in the background. Long and balanced aftertaste. Fantastic. 19/20
